Diet Information

Ah, the ever popular diet discussion. This is where a lot of new Sugar Glider owners mess up. The most common Sugar Glider diet on the market is... pellets. I know pellets are the easy way out, but there really are bad for you gliders. They come in several different shapes and sizes, but all amount to the same thing. Your Gliders need a much more balanced diet than pellets. And adding apples to the pellets doesn't make them okay.
Like I tell every new Glider owner... a good diet is one of the most important - if not THE most important aspects of Sugar Glider health. We've been feeding the Original HPW for well over 3 years now and have had great results with it. It's easy to prepare and feed and all of our babies still love it. Does this mean you have to feed it? Absolutely not! HPW isn't the only good diet out there - there's are actually several good diets to choose from. Some may be a little more complex than others, but they're all healthy and lead to happy Gliders.
At times, diet research may become overwhelming. There may also be times when you think that feeding one of these diets it just too much or will be too hard. Please don't think like that. When it comes down to it, pretty much all of the diets are as easy as pie. And after you've been making them as long as us, you'll be able to do it in your sleep, lol.
Another point I need to make... all of these diets MUST be fed along with fruits and veggies. There are some people that will only feed fresh of both, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with feeding one of the frozen mixes that you'll find in the store. Just make sure that all of the stuff you feed is Glider safe. We feed a mixture of both. During the summer months, we like to feed all the fresh produce that we can find at local farmers markets, but in the winter months it's a lot harder to find something that the Gliders will eat - so we opt for the frozen.
Please, take all the time you can to read and review all the diets that are out there. This is very important and needs to be something that will work for not only you, but your Gliders. :O)
